In a decision issued
yesterday, the Constitutional Council annulled Law No. 679 of July 19, 2005,
which was promulgated by the Parliament. The law dealt with postponing the
examination of revisions before the Council, including the electoral
challenges, pending that the number of its members be complete. The law was
null and void since it violates the provisions of the Constitution and
constitutional principles.” |

Ten MPs from the
Change and Reform Bloc had submitted on July 28, 2005 a challenge to the
Constitutional Council, calling for the suspension of the effects of this
law. |

The applicant MPs
were: Ghassan Mokheiber, Neamatallah Abi Nasr, Walid Najib al-Khoury, Youssef
Khalil, Hagop Pakaradounian, Michel Aoun, Ibrahim Kanaan, Farid Khazen, Elias Skaff and Abbas Hashem. |
