The Lebanese Parliamentary Monitor (LP Monitor) seeks to enhance accountability and transparency in the society by establishing a monitor to provide citizens with concrete information on their representatives’ track record on key public policy issues. The information will be published to the public through our website: www.lpmonitor.org.
The website will contain a database which will include different information in relation to the members of the parliament. This database was assembled through monitoring and collecting information that is directly related to the parliamentarians’ activities and positions in the public policy domain. Other material includes the profiles of the members of the parliament, internal by-laws of the parliament, and the list of all the laws legislated by the current parliament. The website will also provide contacts about all individuals and organizations involved in this project. Finally, the website offers its visitors the opportunity to be involved in participating and sustaining this important effort.
The LPMonitor places priority on five top public policies of concern for the Lebanese citizen. These policies were selected by organizing two sessions with various civil society organizations and an online survey. Several members of parliament were interviewed in order to attain a comprehension in relation to their stands and performance with respect to these five policy areas. This information will be uploaded to the website and compiled in a pamphlet to be published.
The LP Monitor will also organize town halls meetings in five regional between members of parliament and the citizens in order to provide an opportunity for the public to question the performance of their elected representatives.
